In association with our Chicago-area supplier, TTII is pleased to offer their Equestra- Turf brand of equestrian/horse arena rubber mulch. Having been formulated and tested in numerous horse arenas in the metro-Chicago area for the past 12 years, Equestra-Turf was developed in conjunction with trainers and vets, to ensure the product was the right mix of size, material, and quality. Our rubber is blended with a fiber reinforced rubber polymer which holds moisture which is insulated by the rubber. When combined with a sand base this greatly decreases dust - a major problem in horse arena's and tracks.
Often injuries to horses occur over extended periods of time, so early installation of an enhanced surface is critical for long-term health of the animals. Our Equestra-Turf mulches are low-maintenance and allow the free absorption of water and air - leading to a moist and mostly dust-free surface (when compared with an all-sand application.) Additionally, tests have shown that the addition of rubber to equestrian surfaces leads to expanded usability - by providing greater cushion for the horses' hooves. The result is often expanded training time for the riders.
Sizing: Equestra-Turf particles measure 1/2" on average - ideal for both horse arenas and tracks. When too large a particle size is used this can cause a "fish scaling" effect - resulting in poorer footing for the horse. If the particle is too small then the material breaks down quicker with the sand mixture. This particulate lasts partly due to size but also due to the SBR rubber which is utilized which is extremely long wearing. Our horse and equestrian arena mulch is made from 100% recycled rubber products - and is equally suitable for both indoor & outdoor use. Wholesale rubber mulch is aethetically pleasing enough to use for landscaping and safe enough to use on playgrounds for children.
General Surface Preparation Recommendations
- Ensure surface is clean and free of mud
- Remove any top-dressings, down to hard surface
- Add a layer of limestone
- Apply minimum of 2 inches of silica sand base. Contact Us for current available grades.
- Add Equestra-Turf
- Recommended 2 inch depth for dressage or 6 inch depth (4 inches mulch + 2 inches sand) for rodeo-style applications.
- Note: horses need to become accustomed to rubber surfaces, and may exhibit nervous behavior to start.
