End-of-life solutions for Synthetic Turf Surfaces
In association with the Lafarge/Systech Corporation, Target Technologies (TTII) has addressed a crucial, environmental clean-up issue: the safe and efficient disposal of old artificial turf sports surface systems.
Utilizing its own proprietary technology – in combination with TTII’s supply chain network - Lafarge/Systech will convert obsolete artificial turf sports fields into an efficient, alternate energy source to power its cement kilns. In this era of energy volatility, “Synthetic Turf Derived Fuel” – or STDF – has the promise to help solve several challenges – including the diversion of non-recyclable fuel bearing material from landfills, as it replaces fossil fuels.
With typical field life-spans of only 8 to 12 years, progressive municipalities and school boards are now finding it necessary to plan not only for their new artificial field’s installation – but also for its eventual demise.
